What’s a Portfolio Session?

I offer TFP (trade for print) sessions when there’s new equipment or techniques I’d like to test, creating new YouTube videos, marketing materials or expanding the personal projects I am working on.

A portfolio session works for both of us.

I get the test done, and you get some awesome photos for your portfolio and social media.

Preparations

  • Please look at my Instagram or online portfolio to get a sense of my style. It’s often simple, tightly framed images of people with a hint of their personality, trade, skill or passion mixed in. Let me know what you do at what you are good at and we tailor the shoot around you.

  • Wear what is comfortable for you, the simpler and plainer the better. I often take shots with a black and white aethetic where simple clothing works better than patterned or intricate clothing.

  • With make-up, less is more. None is best. Wear no more than you’d wear to a friend’s house.

  • No matter who you are, you already look great.

  • If you can’t make the session for any reason, please give me 24 hours notice.

The session

  • Sessions last between one and two hours at the location we’ve decided on.

  • There’s a model release to agree to (shown at the bottom of this page).

  • A good number of people I photograph have never had a good picture taken of themselves before. We will relax and I’ll guide you to get brilliant pictures.

  • There’s no such thing as posing. Only body language and composition. I’ll worry about that so you don’t have to.

The photos

  • All delivered digital images will have 'global' corrections such as overall brightness and contrast. 'Local' corrections (retouching) are more time consuming and are not included (though are available as an extra service).

  • Test sessions result in 10 final digital images, ready to view within a week.

  • The images will be displayed via gallery on this site. The gallery is a stand-alone page, meaning there’s no direct navigation to it on my site, but anyone who has the link to can view the gallery without a password. This is a good way to share with family and friends. The link will be live for 6 months.

  • The gallery images are not protected, so you can “right click” and “save as…”, or you can request a DropBox link if you’d prefer.

  • If we’ve shot some film, three to six of these images will be added to the gallery often within two weeks.


Model release

1. I, “the Model”, permit “the Photographer” named in this contract, to copyright and use the video and/or photographs of me and my property for any purpose in any form (including but not limited to marketing, physical and digital publishing).

2. I can use edited photograph(s) provided by the Photographer for personal use as part of a personal portfolio, social media and personal printing. 3. I will not re-process, edit, alter or apply filters to any of the photographs.

4. I agree I have no rights to sell, license or publish any photographs to any person or entity.

5. I release, discharge and save harmless the Photographer from any liability that may occur in the taking or publication of the photograph(s).

6. If the Photographer is using a drone, I agree to act as a “visual observer” (to maintain awareness of the drone’s position and scan for hazards).

7. I declare that I am over 18 years old. If I am under 18 years of age I must provide evidence of consent by a parent or guardian to this model release.
